The Rundown:
Book two wasted zero time playing with our emotions—it picked up right where book one left us gasping, with Melani dropping a bomb so messy, I almost threw my phone. From there, things escalated fast. This book was a three-ring circus of drama, with enough tea to fill three separate books.
Let’s start with Genesis and Kelan. They’re officially a thing now, but keeping it hush-hush so the gym groupies don’t realize she was getting acquainted while he was still boo’d up. Honestly, I don’t blame her. That man is the gym.
Then we have Kane and Dior, who deserve their own episode of Fatal Attraction. Kane refuses to let go of Bonnie, the woman he claims is sweet and loyal—except plot twist: she’s not. Sis goes back to Belize to “visit family” and literally runs into the man who got away, making her rethink everything. Meanwhile, Kane kidnaps Dior for having the nerve to block him. Yes, kidnaps. But don’t worry, y’all—he takes her to her bucket list vacation spot for as long as she wants after threatening to off one of his boys for calling her a bitch. Romantic? Unhinged? Both?
And Bryson, Lord. Just when he finally meets a woman who makes him put away his hoe card, his past crashes the party. The man spirals, doesn’t even confide in his boys, and ends up skipping town. My heart broke.
Oh—and let’s not forget the bomb their mama’s been hiding. When it goes off? Chile. We’re left on a cliff so high I got altitude sickness.
Trigger Warning (SA)
There’s one heartbreaking scene involving sexual assault. It’s not graphic, but it’s deeply emotional. What gutted me most wasn’t the act itself—it was her inner monologue, hoping her man would come save her. And he didn’t. Not because he didn’t love her, but because his mama had him in a chokehold of trauma too. Once you get the full story, you’ll understand the mother’s silence…but let’s be real, she could’ve saved everyone a whole lot of heartache by opening her mouth a little earlier.
What I Loved:
Kane & Bonnie’s crazy-ass relationship. Kane is a menace, but he’s the kind of menace that’ll fight a dude and run you a bubble bath after.
Bryson getting soft over Imani. One minute he’s for the streets, the next he’s leaving strip clubs to hang and play 2K with her. Growth.
Dior’s strength. She came into her own this book—strong, resilient, and ready to reclaim her peace.
Genesis & Kelan’s sexual tension. The man wore her out like rent was due. I love that for her.
What Shocked Me (Spoiler-Free…Kinda):
Kelan’s mom straight-up watched him get rode like the bull he is. I wish I was joking. Even wilder? He told Genesis to keep going when she understandably got off and covered up. EVEN WILDER? She did. Ma’am…
Bonnie’s POV. We’ve only seen her through Kane’s rose-colored glasses. That view? Hella distorted.
Melani’s entire arc. Why am I surprised she’s still a hot mess? I shouldn’t be. But I was.
The SA scene. I kept hoping the book would zig when it zagged. It did not.
Heat Check: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Four flames, baby. This book is hot, heavy, and emotionally charged. Not just spice for the sake of it—these scenes mean something.
Favorite Quotes:
“You can window shop; just don’t touch the merchandise, and damn sure don’t buy it.” – Bryson
“You are more than enough… You evoke emotions in me that defy description. You are mine…every sexy inch of you.” – Genesis, reminding us why Kelan stays booked and busy
Final Thoughts:
This sequel cranked the drama to a hundred. Secrets. Betrayals. Spice. Heartbreak. Kidnappings. And a slow burn of emotional wreckage that sets the stage for book 3 to be pure chaos. I’m already preparing for multiple funerals, unhinged confessions, and hopefully some well-earned happiness.
